According to the Financial Times, Nintendo rejected the camera-based technology for the Wii that Microsoft is using in Project Natal.

Nintendo reportedly tried to develop games using camera-based sensors, but instead opted for accelerometers.

To quote: The Financial Times have this week revealed that Nintendo rejected the camera-based technology for the Wii.

The Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that the company tried to develop games controlled by camera-based sensors but received better results using accelerometers eventually utilized in the Wii hardware.

As we saw at the E3 Conference earlier this week, Microsoft and Sony are both using camera technology to track gesture and movement-based controls in a three-dimensional space.

The Xbox 360's 'Project Natal' can perform full three-dimensional motion tracking and can scan items into the system. Whilst Sony's new motion controller is a lot like the Nintendo Wii's.

im stil holding my reservations about the 360's full motion sensing capabilities, but admit it will be an amazing feat if they can pull it off!

i think its abit unfair to just say "Whilst Sony's new motion controller is a lot like the Nintendo Wii's"
because after watching the tech demo of the new sony motion controller, it shows that there are alot more advanced abilities that the wii-mote just cant do.

ok, they are both motion sensing remotes, but the wii's is very innaccurate at times, and sony seem to have developed there's into a full x,y,z motion track system.

i would definately recommend watching the tech demo...

Well the way i see it:

Nintendo is using the accelometers only, and Microsoft is using its camera. Sony mixes this up and makes a nice Camera - Accelerometer combo from it.

I sold my Xbox 360 a week ago, when i first saw the news i was shocked... but now i learned that Sony is having a much better technique so i stick with Sony and Nintendo :D!

Coming E3 2010 Wii Motion Camera!!! and from 360 "Xbox magic wand, because sometimes you just need to have something in your hands", I mean since everyone seems to be "copying" stuff from each other there is a very big chance it'll happen.

But in order for MS to pull it off they will have to make the thing really really cheap and with some amazing games, not copies of wii fit and wii sports, otherwise people will just continue to use the Wii and ignore it completely.
