It's no secret Bionic Commando was one of the hottest games back in the day. The popular franchise has been around since 1988 and to be honest I was beginning to lose hope that we would ever see a sequel for the next-gen console. That was until it was announced in October that Bionic Commando would be released for XBOX 360, PS3 and Windows.

So you already know I've been following it closely and can't wait to get my hands on it. If you're a fan of the franchise you won’t need to be convinced, but just in case you are having doubts read on and you'll see why I am so hyped about it.

1. The Gameplay

Don’t get it twisted we all love the old 2D arcade versions of the game, they were plenty fun for the time, but the thought of swinging around in open world 3D environment with the Bionic Arm has to get you hyped. In the old versions Nathan “Rad” Spencer was unable to jump, he could only use his arm to get from place to place. Now you will be wrecking havoc in vertical and horizontal environments. Let’s just say the dude has been upgraded in a major way and there are barely any limits on what you can do.

2. Multiplayer

It was just recently confirmed that on-line modes will support 10 vs. 10, which is plenty enough if you ask me. Adding more players just adds more confusion and lag, damn I hate that word. Everyone plays as an FSA agent so there will no fighting on who gets to claim Spencer. Expect all your favorite modes like death match and team play to be included.

3. The Environment

If you’ve had a chance to peep the screen-shots then you already know how much the environment plays into the game. Almost anything you see on a map you are able to latch on and use to swing from area to
area. You’ll spend a majority of your time in the rubble of Ascension City, which is an NYC type city, but there are several other locations in the setting. One thing that’s really looking hot is the park area, which almost looks jungle like. Make sure you keep an eye out for flashing objects as you go along. You can pick up rocks and cars, aim and then throw them at enemies.

4. The Comic Book

For all you comic book heads this should be right up your alley. The Bionic Commando comic book is based off of the new game and will be released in the near future. Be sure to check out Comic-Con going on now for more details on the book.

5. The Bionic Arm

Let’s be real here, the Bionic Arm is what makes Bionic Commando what it is. Capcom thinks so much of their Bionic Arm that they brought a real life size version to this year’s E3. They passed it out to people who tried the game, search it on flickr, you’ll get some good laughs. With the arm you can do almost anything like, throw massive objects at your enemies, pull the landscape apart and pound opponents into submission, just don’t try and swim with it, it doesn’t do good in water.

6. Bionic Commando Rearmed

The XBOX LIVE arcade version will not only keep us busy until the release, but having it on the hard drive will allow you to unlock exclusive content from the game. As an ode to the original you’ll be able to unlock a “classic” skin for Spencer, where you’ll be rocking’ the flak-jacket and the old school orange hair.

7. Swinging Techniques: This Ain’t No Spider man

Swinging techniques are far different than any game out there that has this type of gameplay. This ain’t Spideman where you can just swing around with ease. The swinging mechanism will take time and patients. It really adds to the realism of the game, and once you have it down you won’t even think twice about swinging from place to place.

8. The Story

The game takes place 10 years after the original, Spencer has been betrayed by the government and sent to prison. He is facing the death sentence and on the day of his execution an intense earthquake is caused by terrorists who detonate a massive weapon that wipes out the population. Ascension City has been destroyed and Spencer has been sent behind the lines to clean it up. The reason the story is on point is because Spencer starts out at the bottom, he is weaker in this version and has to battle his way to the top. Not to mention when you start the game Spencer is without his arm. When he was locked up they separated him from his arm because they were afraid of him and knew what he was capable of. With that being said one of your first objectives is to find the Bionic Arm, once you’re reunited with your arm, the real fun starts.

9. The Weapons: What You Thought We Just Use the Arm?

This time around Spencer is equipped with some major artillery that is sure to please all you FPS shooter fans. Coupled that with the fact that you can use your arm to properly dispose of your enemies, should keep you busy both on and offline. There are also weapon pods strategically placed throughout the maps so you won’t go long without a weapon.

10. Hi Hater

Yea that’s right the haters are out in full force, apparently they don’t like the idea of a remake and they say it is disrespect to the franchise. Some are even saying it’s just another Spider man type game with the same mechanics. This is what I think about that, “When they hate on you then you know you doing something’.”

Bionic Commando is expected to be released sometime this winter.
