Good news IMHO, because I don't want modern warfare (the theme in general) to become too quickly worn out just as happened with WW2. However, I have read somewhere while surfing the web that IW is supposedly working on releasing a COD focused around Vietnam for November of 2010.
I can try to find a link or some more info if anyone is interested. They should also take their time with MW3 if you ask me, and focus in on how the gaming community would want to improve it. I've got several options I would like to see added :]

I don't know how quickly the setting of "modern warfare" can wear out, as it's been banged at for well over half a decade now and there have been many more games with that setting compared to those with the WW2 setting. Myself, I don't think I can get tired of it, since I play these games primarily for the modern weapons that I love.
I would say that the fact that MW3 is not gonna come out just makes me wanna cry... the stealth missions would make me go berserk.
Both MW1&2 were very nice and killed almost every other shooter out on the market. The storyline and gameplay was beautiful. But the stealth mission in MW1, "All Ghillied Up" & "One Shot One Kill" was probably the best fps level i've played in my life....The problem was that MW1&2 were so short. I was hoping for a long MW3 edition...

In my opinion, I hope COD7 is neither a futuristic shooter like GRAW nor a WW1 or WW2 based game like many of the previous games of the COD series.

I think the vietnam version of cod will be all too similar to the battle of Peleliu of world at war (especially with the flamethrower and guerrilla tactics of the vietnamese) however the agent orange and napalm would be an interesting story point i think
i agree with the general consensus that a modern warefare 3 would be too early to announce or start development on (mw1 came out in 2007 and the online community there is still strong) and so the team would be spreading themselves far too thin by moderating 3 online communities and dealing with the games maintenance (fw updates)
the M$ timed dlc doesnt surprise me, and sony has taken a respectible "dlc is never 'exclusive'" approach and saved themselves some money for the sake of a few months
i'm mainly intrigued by the statement of IW working on something "completely new" and hope that its as wel developed as the MW series
