- Ever since the PlayStation 3 got out on the market there have been different comparisons of the two systems.
Well, there is nothing wrong with them, but now, graphically, with upcoming titles like Killzone 2 and even Uncharted 2, the Xbox 360 console has nothing to compare with to the PS3.
I recently read the review
of Killzone 2 that was published in The Guardian newspaper and the reviewer stated that the game is, and i qoute; "not quite up to the awesome standard of 360's Gears Of War 2″.
I know he's not talking about the graphics. And I said to myself; "What the hell is so damn awesome about Gears Of War 2?". The gameplay maybe? It's still too much alike the first Gears Of War. There is nothing wrong with the gameplay in Killzone 2. It's been too much picking of how much the PS3 suck. No great games and how the quality of the graphics that's not any greater than the 360.
Well, I can agree that alot of games for the PS3 is not that great graphically and story-wise. I can't get how you, as a game producer, can release such games. Well, it's also about how big budget you have, but anyway. Like Blacksite for example, I think that is one of the worst games ever. There is nothing great, or even good, with that game. The graphics would fit the PS2 system easily.
Other games that also looks aweful is Army Of Two, Kane & Lynch and Conflict: Denied Ops to name a few. Haze is a nice looking game, but the story is just aweful. Also, it's time for EA to ditch the Need For Speed series if they can't make it any better or interesting, the PS3 version of Undercover is laggy.
Even the upcoming Prototype game looks pretty descent compared to Killzone 2. They haven't put any hard work in the surroundings, the cars looks like cheap models like they did in GTA3 on PC for example. Poor quality. Check out this
Back to the consoles. Let's talk about the prize. As of now, I don't think the prize is a big difference and the PS3 is not too expensive. Not if you look at the differences of the two consoles. The 360 has no 1080p support or Blu-Ray player and you don't have to pay to play online games with the PS3. Just to get a stand alone Blu-Ray player costs like the 360 console. So, that's only good things for the PS3.
So, how is it with the development of the systems? Maybe the 360 is easier to produce and develope games on but I don't think that's something you can go for if you should do great games or if you are in the plans of making a game exclusive for the 360 or even a port to the PS3 system. It's all a matter of how good you are to put out the best of anything.
Those how can make the best out of the PS3 is Naughty Dog with their Uncharted-series, Guerrilla Games with Killzone 2 and SCEE with God Of War 3 so far, I think more developers will join this squad pretty soon. All of these games is exclusive for PlayStation 3 and I think it's great so they can fully consentrate on it to do the best possible game, because they know how to do it. Just take a look on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, I think this is still one of the best looking game ever made and this game was released in 2007.
Other notable thing is that Drake's Fortune only used about 30% of the PS3's power and they're planning to use nearly 100% with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. If you've missed it, check out the first trailer here
. Not to talk about Killzone 2. This will absolutely have the best graphics so far and I think they will have that title for a while.
What concerns God Of War 3, you can't make any real review of how the game will look, because it's so far from completed, but what was shown the other day with the trailer, check it out here
, it really looks promising and outstanding. The 360 has no games, not even upcoming, that can match this. Playstation 3 has a big advantage with it's Blu-Ray player, wich have bigger storage on discs and to get true 1080p.
Check out the fire in this
Gears Of War 2 video, do you think that's nice?, there is nothing good looking with it. Even the crosshair looks damn ugly, and WTH is about the big creamy-like blood losses when you get shot?
Hell, you should be drained on blood in a second in loosing so much blood. Instead take a look
at the fire and explosions in Killzone 2, it is way more life like and much better looking and the blood isn't that thick. Just to mention how the water looks in Uncharted. It's really beautiful.
I'm not saying that Gears Of War 2 overall looks ugly or something like that, but it can't be compared with the PS3 titles. Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty World at War is pretty nice though, but they are built on an engine and CPU to be released on both systems.
Can you imagine how Killzone 2 or even Uncharted would look like if they were, just say 360 exclusive? Didn't think so, share your comments below!
