This year brought many games with high profile ones such as Grand Theft Auto IV and Gears of War 2. It was not until late into the year we began to see more bigger titles coming out for the holidays.

It all started in early September with Spore, Crysis Warhead, and Rock Band 2. LucasArts’ Star Wars: The Force Unleashed didn’t quite impress its critics but sales were good enough.

With the surprise success of The Witcher; released back in 2007, Atari released a new version dubbed The Witcher: The Enhanced Edition with new features and bug-less. EA’s highly anticipated MMORPG Warhammer Online: The Age of Reckoning was released in mid-September for those who were looking for a different online game to play besides Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures and World of Warcraft.

September ending with Gearbox Software’s realistic WWII first-person shooter Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway which was one of my favorite games for the year.

October was the big month for games. It seemed like every week had a big title coming out. Dead Space, the horror first-person shooter from EA hit the spot for those who enjoyed blasting monsters and watching their limbs explode.

Unlike your typical first-person shooter, Dead Space offered some innovative features that kept the game interesting and there were more maps than I expected for a game in this genre. Saints Row 2 also came out this month for those who like an imitation of Grand Theft Auto.

I suppose it was kind of a hit since they have announced a sequel to the game. Personally, after playing the first one, I didn’t like it. PS3 owners had a treat with BioShock. Ubisoft’s highly anticipated Far Cry 2 was released. Roaming in the outbacks of Africa and hunting down enemies as a mercenary, what could be more fun than that?

What I really liked about Far Cry 2 was the open-ended gameplay and the graphics were fantastic! October ended with releases of Fable II and Fallout 3. Fable II was definitely worth the wait. Although the graphics didn’t quite impress me, the gameplay sure made up for it. In my opinion, Fallout 3 is game of the year. It stacks up there as one of my all-time favorite games.

November brought us Epic Games’ Gears of Wars 2, EA’s innovative Mirror’s Edge, and Activision’s Call of Duty: World at War. Playing through GoW2 singleplayer co-op was an amazing experience. Graphically, Epic Games definitely improved the game’s engine.

As you would expect, GoW2 offered a fast-paced action packed game. Mirror’s Edge took a bit of a different angle to a first-person game. Instead of running around and shooting at things, you run, jump, climb, slide, tumble, wall-running, and balancing across ledges to get to your goal and all of this in first-person view. Call of Duty: World at War had fantastic graphics and the gameplay was fun but the computer’s A.I. didn’t exactly leave you in awe.

November was also a treat for World of Warcraft addicts. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was released. Blizzard saw a majority of its players coming back from Age of Conan and Warhammer Online. November ended with releases of Valve’s survival horror Left 4 Dead, EA’s Need for Speed: Undercover, and Eidos’ Tomb Raider: Underworld.

December only had a few big title releases such as Prince of Persia and Grand Theft Auto IV for PC. I didn’t have much expectations for Prince of Persia but it was a surprisingly fun game with a good storyline and nice graphics. With the year coming to an end, the games for 2008 is almost over. So here are my top 10 games of 2008:

1. Fallout 3
2. Fable II
3. Gears of War 2
4. Prince of Persia
5. Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway
6. Grand Theft Auto IV
7. Mirror’s Edge
8. Dead Space
9. Far Cry 2
10. Call of Duty: World at War

I don't believe that these game should have earned the place they did.
The first three games (Fallout 3, Fable II & Gears of War 2) were all reported to have glitches and problems that would render the game unplayable. The games main plot or story may be great in these games but I believe that if a company sends out a broken product to it's consumers, they should be punished, not rewarded. Even though patches have been/ will be released to fix the errors in these games, they should have been shipped out with out any errors in the first place.

I will admit that I do not own either of the first the games, reason being I do not own an Xbox 360 and I didn't purchase Fallout due to the bugs/glitches and lack of Trophy support.

It's sad to see that we, the consumers will actually buy a broken product and even THEN still give it a positive rating.

I could go on for hours but, I know that it wouldn't change anything. The world is slowly spiraling downward...

P.S. PS3News I like how you have the FoxyTunes signature add-on in the reply box. :p

Maybe you guys can learn some good new music from my posts as well. :chill:

Hmmm, Metal Gear Solid 4, maybe?? Loved that game, still not quite sure why bothers in arms is on the list. And yeah "BlingOnMyWrist" I agree with you a bit there alot of the games of the list were glitchy and had several reported problems on their release dates. Great games still though.

BiA:HH in position 5... lol

As a PS3 fan, I completely disagree that list. It seems to be a Xbox 360 list. Otherwise MGS4 and LBP would be listed there.

lol I think you picked some good games but I find your post funny. You've posted this on a PS3 site, yet you haven't included a single PS3 game in your writing at all.

You missed out Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Resistance 2.

In my opinion top games of the year were (this is what I have played mind you)

1) World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
2) Fallout 3
3) Resistance 2
4) Little Big Planet
5) Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
6) Grand Theft Auto IV
7) Mirror's Edge
8) Battlefield: Bad Company

Not in any particular order:

1.- MGS4
2.- Left 4 Dead
3.- Dead Space
4.- Resistance 2
5.- Fallout 3
6.- Gears of War 2
7.- Call of Duty: World at War
8.- Little Big planet
9.- GTA 4
10.- Chrono Trigger Remake for the DS

Your list focuses only on september to December releases and not to be mean but some are poor games.

I'm going to say this top 10 is way off. Mirror's Edge shouldn't even be in the top 10, although it was fun for 2 weeks it doesn't deserve a top 10 spot while MGS4 isn't even in the top.

Best games of 2008 in my opinion.
1:Fallout 3
2:Resistance 2
3:Metal Gear Solid 4
5:Super Smash Bros. Brawl
6:Gears of War 2
7:Little Big Planet
8:Fable II
9:Grand Theft Auto IV
10:Call of Duty: World at War

To clarify, our domain name is "ps3news" but we actually cover all console news- focusing on PlayStation 3 news (when there is some). :D

This post was actually done under the general Console News section (PS3 NEWS - PlayStation 3 News » General News » Console News) ... if this was intended to be a "PS3" list it would be under the PS3-specific one. ;)

In any case, +Rep to ALL who voiced their feedback and own lists!

I agree with most of what has just been said.

One thing no one seemed to address was the fact the Prince of Persia was on the list at all. The game is OK, but not even close to top 10. I give the game serious respect because it flows VERY well, but it's WAY too repetitive. I'd go into more detail but I think this is the wrong place for that...

i agree with most of these, except brothers in arms. It's just such a horrible game compared to call of duty 5, i played both, and just comparing it within 10 minutes of play.

Call of duty is just better. I even played the demo of brothers in arms and didn't even want to finish it since it was so bad, Just looking at how cheap the voice actors felt just..aaaaw! horrible.

Anyway, agree or not, fallout 3 needs trophy's to be at number 1. Although some people don't care about them, most people would rather have them then not. If it weren't for the GTA 4 trophy's that are a complete bitch, i would have had stopped playing that game and wouldn't even had bothered getting 100%.
