Activision CEO Bobby Kotick, the same guy who threatened to drop PS3 if Sony doesn't cut the price, is now seeking higher video game prices.

Kotick's response came after Mike Griffith answered analyst Tony Gikas' question on price points, as follows:

"And then on the second question, Tony, on the pricing, we’ve had for all of our launch titles in the back half of this year, some of which contain peripherals, as you point out, very strong retailer acceptance and support for all parts of our plan, including our merchandising plans, our marketing programs, and our price points."

Bobby Kotick then added, per SPoNG (linked above): "And Tony, you know if it was left to me, I would raise the prices even further."

Apparently the £99.99 retailers are listing for Tony Hawk Ride and the $149 you'll pay for the 'prestige' release of Modern Warfare 2 (there's no solid UK price yet) aren't enough.

Well it was obvious this guy was an ass from the ps3 bit. I said at that time that if they wanted to improve their game sales they should lower their game prices if they have the balls to ask sony to lower the console price. He is saying raise game prices...

This is why Kotick is the least liked executive in the entertainment industry in history. It's bad enough they're requiring overpriced chunks of cheap plastic for their games now. Now they want MORE money? Activision isn't getting a dime from me anymore anyway, but this cements it.

Holy fook!? As if video games' prices weren't sky high already... The guy wants more!? How good does he think his games are? Like... almost as good as buying a x360 arcade?!

Crazy I say... Someone just shoot him and be done with it...

Inglorious B*sterd.

That's a good point Preceptor, it's like he wants games to cost as much as consoles used to... hell, I remember when spending $199 for the original NES console was outrageous (though it came with Super Mario Bros. which was THE game back in the day).

Mr. Kotick seems oblivious to what's going on in the world lately, and is trapped in his mansion or exec washroom... and yet they all wonder why game-related sales are down and piracy is rampant.

what a retaRD,

this guy is greedy and wants the games to cost more than the hardware.

what a fool

By Gringo on 15 weeks ago:
- I remember the price of the game of NeoGeo Console, the cartridge cost was half of the hardware price.
- The only defence the consumer can take, is DONT BUY TESE GAME OVERPRICED is the only solution, if they don't sell the market change.

PS: Yes this guy Bobby Kotick is a retarded, and i hope in a Bankrupt of his Activision.

who does this guy think he is? doesnt he evan know that there is a credit crunch in the uk? if this was the case that this ginger carrot top was telling sony now to up there price on video games, then i would drop the ps3 or just stick to renting games from blockbuster more cheaper than buying them anyway, and another thing doesnt he think that ACTIVISION has made enough money from call of duty world at war and all of the freakin Map Packs!

Sorry but people like him make me feel sick, just cos they have money they want more its just pure greed!

i remember the days when a extra map was something you got free in a patch or downloaded from the website for free, then there were community maps (70% crud 30%pure gold) now i cant play halo3 (360 i know but bear with me) because i dont have the right map packs, i cant play cod waw (well most playlists) cos i dont have the map packs i wont be able to afford the new tony hawk game £99 for a game f that.

And this pompus a-hole wants to raise the cost of all games ! the real reason our finances are in such a state, guys like this dont care about people like us were just walking talking money to them... scum.

I'm really curious if Modern Warfare 2 (Come on... seriously??? is THAT good?!?! no way in hell!!!) and Tony Hawks (WTF??!? go skate outside if you like skating, a new board is less than half that price) sell more than 100K... Do YOU pay for getting scammed?!?!

I for sure won't and if all people would think like me, I'm sure these games will have 0.0000 sales!

As it seems MW2 has is and probably will be a success (according to activision's own preordes) even the prestige edition wich is priced at 150 has reached top 10 in sales! I wish people would think about this things more when they cough up the cash!

 I know people who would give up gaming for that !")&$() comment, these are the casual gamers that they count on cus theyre the poor fools who buy the crap in between the occasional good game ie MW2(?), what was that bad company 2... buy you??

I THINK I WILL, RIP MW2

Oh anybody know of a Mr 47.? he has been asking for his address... :muhaha:

By semitope on 15 weeks ago:
Codmw2 has a pretty interesting story and gameplay from the videos, but activision has ntn to do with that. They just bought the company that makes it and now publish their games... they really should just humble themselves.

Do they really think, they will make much more money? they will just lower the request for the Games, since the price is too high.

And there target group are most likely young people too, which need the money for other things than some games they can finifsh in 5 Days and then have to spend again an unafortable amount of money

Here is what I think (correct me if I'm wrong). Doesn't all of the map packs from COD:WAW look like final cut rejects. They are the maps that didn't make the final game, so now they use them as map pack to make easy money.

Thats what I was thinking, I reckon they are maps which were either in the game before or were rushed out.

In this economy, they are looking for ways to turn a profit. DLC and "Elite" game packs have shown to be profitable, so it really makes sense that they would be shoving them down our throats. As long as people are willing to buy these addons and extras, they will never go away.

Activision is not alone in wanting to raise prices. They are probably the only ones who are willing to say it.

This will just make breaking the ps3 to play backups that much more if the prices go to high and these companies wonder why piracy is going..

Only ones willing to say it because Kotick's name as a professional is already sh!t, and all the customers already hate his guts :p

Yea, it's true. He is a tool with an agenda and at the same time if you owned a company and you thought you could raise prices without altering your sales you would be crazy not too.

Games will only get more expensive. I think I heard somewhere that the Game download service Microsoft was offering, priced the games at around $100. That is highway robbery! Why charge more for digital media? You would think the amount saved by not printing discs would be much greater than the cost of some servers (especially for Microsoft).

Exactly. 15 bucks for 1943? sure I can do that. 70 bucks for KZ2 + crappy DLC that doesn't offer anything more than a flamethrower and a map for 10 bucks? Please, I'll be back on the PC playing Urban Terror if things keep going that route.

I wish I was rich enough to not care about the cost of a game :(
